April 2016

We have an eventful April ahead of us with three regional events AND the US Majors Tour event at Hallett Motor Racing Circuit in Jennings, OK!! Coming up this Sunday April 3rd, we have our first of two dual regional events with NEOKLA at the Tanger Outlet Mall lot in Stroud, OK. This site is one-of-a-kind in space and surface. Last year we had a fantastic turnout with well over 70 entries! Stroud is commonly known as the halfway point between OKC and Tulsa. The lot is asphalt and very VERY large which will give us plenty of space in order to make a fun and challenging course for all of you guys who autocross. Coming up a week after the dual regional event in Stroud is the Hallett leg of the US Majors Tour. The US Majors tour is described by the home office as follows:

The U.S. Majors Tour is the pinnacle of championship racing in North America.
This isn't Easy Street. This is where America's best amateur drivers race. It means start-to-finish, wheel-to-wheel action. It's where drivers not only put their cars on the track, they put their pride on the line.
Make no mistake, this is not country club driving. The kindred spirit found here is mixed with fuel and emotion. Adrenaline pumps a little harder here.
Take a close look. It's not for everyone. If you long for the flag that welcomes or denies you, we have a spot for you.

The US Majors Tour is one step of the qualifying process for the SCCA Championship Runoffs Presented by Garmin Virb. Registration for this event is being handled by Arkansas Valley Race Group, a combination of four SCCA regions in the area. Even if you do not have your competition license, there are ways for you to take part! The event will need volunteers for this event to ensure the weekend runs smoothly and efficiently. Hallett is located just outside Jennings, OK, about an hour's drive from OKC and about 45 minutes from Tulsa. Volunteers at the US Majors Tour at Hallett this year will receive lunch on both days of the event AND a coupon good for $20 off any AVRG region's events! You will also qualify to earn discounts on your annual membership dues and sweet SCCA gear!

On April 17th, the Oklahoma Region kicks off the new and improved (read as we've resurrected) RoadRally program. This event organized by Jim Duea and myself over the course of the last year, take participants from Remington Park in OKC up to Arcadia, OK and then south to Shawnee, OK. We've designed this rally as a leisurely Tour/GTA style rally which is going to be fun and challenging for both beginners and experience rallists alike! Registration is being handled by the Oklahoma Region and is available on MotorsportReg.com.

Then finishing out the month on April 24th, there will be an Oklahoma Region regional Solo/autocross event held at Remington Park with a very special Stephen Sharp/Mark Council designed course that won't disappoint! Registration for that event will open soon and will be handled by MotorsportReg.com

Then finally on April 30th though May 1st, the first of four, yeah that's right, FOUR Divisional Solo Series events kicks off in beautiful Topeka, KS at the under new and improved management Heartland Park Topeka race track. This site was the site of the SCCA Solo National Championships from 2006 through 2008. The site that will be in use is a large asphalt paddock with ample parking and is only a quarter of a mile from our national headquarters! Divisional Series events this year are sponsored by Solo Performance Specialties/Solotime and R&S Racing. SPS and R&S Racing are member owned businesses that specialize in products to make your racing experience more enjoyable.

I think I speak for your entire board in saying that the 2016 season is the most exciting that the region has had in many years and we look forward to all of you, our members and participants in joining us this year!

Best regards,
Collin Moore
Executive Vice President
Oklahoma Region SCCA (30)
