1978 Spring Games Concours

1978 Spring Games Concours

by Wann Richter

If you weren’t at Shepherd Mall on Saturday June 10th you missed a great car show. We had fifty-three (53) vehicles in the Mall and they ranged from a Pantera, Dan Gurney’s Indianapolis 500 Eagle to a Jaguar XKE.

Tom Stuve and Eloise Norris did a splendid job of judging. Those of you who were at the Mall can winnersreally appreciate the difficult job they had to do. When the first judging was completed three cars had tied for the 1st place Best of \Show trophy with 53 points each. They were Paul D. Franklin’s 1972 DeTomaso Pantera, Rick Teague’s 1975 Triumph TR-6 and a 1937 Bugatti which Peter Young brought to the Mall. Paul Grounds was used to break the tie and he placed the Bugatti 3rd overall with the TR-6 and Pantera tied again for first place. A third judging took place to break this tie and the Pantera came in first with the TR-6 second for the Best of Show. (First overall winners shown are, l to r; Rick Teague, Paul Dean Granklin, Peter Young.)

If you review the list of entries you will see that we had quite a variety of automobiles. The Oklahoma City Porsche Club was well represented with approximately eight Porsches ranging from a 1965 356 C Coupe to a 1978 930 Turbo. The new Z Club and Jaguar Club had 1 car each present and the Shelby Club had three cars at the Mall.

The trophies for each class will be presented at the July meeting if delivery can be made by then. If not, they will be awarded at the August meeting. The three Best of Show trophies were presented at the Mall on Saturday.

I would like to thank Paul Grounds for designing the beautiful Spring Games T-shirts and dash plaques, Tom and Eloise for their hard work at judging and everyone who entered the Concours for putting in those many hours of labor needed to prepare their cars.elouise (Judge Eloise Norris inspects Peter Young's 1932 Aston Martin LeMans Roadster.)

Our next scheduled Concours event will kneelbe at Octoberfest and there is a possibility that we will have one car show prior to October so watch the Gasket Gazette for additional information. Editor's Comment: The "one car show prior to October" would have been the "Fifth Annual Myriad Cavalcade of Cars" but that event was scratched. Look for coverage of the Cavalcade of Cars in the future.
